Ambassador Evans Names Space Delegation
U.S. Ambassador to Luxembourg, J. Randolph Evans is pleased to announce the attendance of U.S. Ambassadors from across Europe for a Chiefs of Mission September Summit in the Grand Duchy on September 22-24, 2020. It will be the largest gathering of U.S. Ambassadors for this purpose in history.
In addition, leading American government officials from Commerce, NASA, the Export Import Bank, the State Department, and others will attend to brief the Ambassadors. Luxembourg government leaders, officials of the European Court of Justice, and others will visit and discuss issues of global significance and the bilateral relationship between the United States and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
President and Chair Kimberly Reed (President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM)) will brief the Ambassadors on a variety of issues. She will also meet with Luxembourg officials on international financial issues common to both countries.
Ambassador Evans states:
“While the visits of Buzz Aldrin and Commerce Secretary Ross during my first year were of major consequence, the meetings next week only further attest to Luxembourg’s place on the world stage as a voice for peace, recovery (from COVID), and prosperity. For me, it is a great honor to welcome such esteemed and highly regarded Ambassadors from across Europe to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg for our Chiefs of Mission September Summit. As we face some of the greatest challenges and changes our world has seen in decades, working together is more crucial than ever. This summit will serve as a unique forum for 15-20 American Ambassadors to discuss challenges, opportunities and goals openly and candidly. To host this important summit here in Luxembourg speaks volumes regarding its role as a country that has always maintained an outsized standing and reputation as a political and financial leader in the region and the world.”
The September Summit is concurrent with the visit of a United States Space Delegation led by former Speaker Newt Gingrich; Mike Gold, Acting Associate Administrator for NASA’s Office of International and Interagency Relations; and Kevin O’Connell, Director of the Office of Space Commerce at the U.S. Department of Commerce. The Space Delegation will meet with Steve Collar; CEO of SES; Marc Serres, CEO of the Luxembourg Space Agency; Pete Worden, Chairman for the Breakthrough Prize Foundation; and representatives of various space industries including ISpace and Made in Space.
Ambassador Evans concluded by saying: “In a COVID year, we did not expect much except to help our countries and the world find a way to the other side. These meetings will lay the groundwork for us to do so with the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg working together with the United States of America. It is truly an impressive gathering of people, talent, and resources between close allies sharing one important bond – a common love for freedom.”
