Demonstrations Alert – U.S. Embassy Luxembourg, Luxembourg
Locations: Various in Luxembourg City
Events: Luxembourg may experience varied demonstration activity over the weekend (March 12-13, 2022), including a protest against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine from 1400h to 1700h on Saturday, March 12th. Several hundred demonstrators are expected to participate, with a meeting point at Place Clairefontaine.
In addition, on Saturday, March 12th, demonstrators will protest anti-COVID restrictions starting at 1400h in the area near the Glacis and Park Kinnekswiss. This demonstration may draw as many as 200 participants.
The demonstration zone that had previously been established by the Government of Luxembourg in December 2021 has been lifted and protesters can now move through the city as designated by their permits.
Luxembourg Police do not expect the demonstrations to be violent, though they may disrupt traffic. Police will be present to monitor the demonstrations.
As of 11:00 on Friday, March 11th, there are no street closures in effect, but that could change. The demonstrations could cause traffic congestion in the area of the Glacis, Kirchberg, and greater downtown Luxembourg City. Please check with local media sources, and Luxembourg Government site VDL.lu for the latest on traffic closures or public transit changes. Please check your route prior to departure and plan your travel accordingly.
