JUNE LGBT PRIDE MONTH & 20th ANNIVERSARY OF ROSA LËTZEBUERG
June has been designated LGBT Pride because of the Stonewall riots which occurred in June 1969. Every year during his tenure President Obama has issued a proclamation declaring June to be LGBT Pride Month and the State Department has marked it in many ways. Last year, the Embassy flew the LGBT pride flag for the first time and made U.S. Embassy Luxembourg the first foreign embassy to fly the flag in Luxembourg. This year Ambassador McKean raised the flag together with the advocacy group, Rosa Lëtzebuerg to celebrate their 20th anniversary. After the flag raising, the members of Rosa Lëtzebuerg enjoyed a special coffee and rainbow cake at the Ambassador’s residence.
