A Guide to Hospitals and Doctors in Luxembourg

The EMERGENCY number in Luxembourg is 112, to be used:

  • In any case of emergency or accident requiring immediate medical treatment, to call an ambulance, the fire brigade (the number for the police is 113).
  • To get information in case of emergency about hospitals, pharmacies, doctors, dentists and veterinary surgeons on-call.
  • On duty hospitals (hôpitaux de garde) provide emergency services on a rotation system. To know which one is on duty, it is advisable to call 112 first, to check the local newspapers or online .

Air Ambulance

Luxembourg Air Rescue (LAR)

Air rescue and medical repatriation company operating internal and international flights. Offers a worldwide repatriation service and 24 hours/365 days call out. European Air Ambulance (EAA)

One of the largest specialized air ambulance service providers in Europe offering worldwide air ambulance. The aircrafts are dedicated to ambulance missions and equipped with a customized stretcher system, ICU medical equipment as well as all necessary drugs. All missions are staffed with a medical team consisting of a specialized physician and a flight nurse. Victims with serious burns are evacuated by local authorities to appropriate medical centers, e.g. Brussels, Nancy or Strasbourg.

Pharmacies in Luxembourg City

All prescription drugs are provided by the pharmacy, not immediately available medication can usually be ordered within 24 hours. A doctor’s prescription is sometimes necessary for drugs that are sold over the counter in the United States. Pharmacists are very helpful and can suggest many over the counter medications for minor problems.

www.pharmacie.lu  indicates addresses of pharmacies throughout the country and the on call pharmacy for nights and weekends, which is also listed daily in the local newspaper or can be determined by calling 112.
