TO VOTE IN THE 2020 U.S. ELECTIONS FROM OVERSEAS
RETURNING YOUR BALLOT
U.S. Embassy, Luxembourg
September 23, 2020
IMPORTANT: International mail from Luxembourg to the U.S. is experiencing service disruptions related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Embassy recommends that U.S. voters in Luxembourg utilize the Consular Section’s ballot collection service to ensure their ballot arrives in the United States in time to be counted. Voters may drop off their ballots at the Embassy front gate and we will send them via diplomatic pouch to the U.S. for delivery by the U.S. postal service. Voters must use postage paid return envelopes (info available here) or envelopes bearing sufficient U.S. domestic postage before dropping off their ballots to the embassy. (NOTE: postage from Luxembourg to the United States is not required using this method.) Transit times can vary but may be up to 3-4 weeks so please plan ahead for mailing time.
The deadline to drop off your ballots at the embassy is October 13, 2020, to allow time for delivery.
The Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP) is the first place Overseas Voters go for information on casting their ballots and making their vote count.
This year, the U.S. Elections will take place on Tuesday, November 3rd. In some states voter registration and ballot request deadlines for the November 2020 are as early as October 5th.
Some states allow you to return your completed ballot electronically and others do not. The COVID-19 information on the FVAP website outlines which states allow for return of ballots via mail, email, or fax. If your state requires you to return paper voting forms or ballots to local election officials by mail, you can do so through international mail, professional courier service, or through Embassy Luxembourg’s diplomatic pouch, as outlined above.
Important Note: Embassies are not polling places. Same-day in-person voting is not available outside the United States.
