U.S. Secretary of Defense Mark Esper and Luxembourg Defense Minister Francois Bausch Join Together in Luxembourg for Commemoration

Ambassador Evans: “U.S. Secretary of Defense Mark Esper joined Luxembourg Defense Minister Francois Bausch along with the Grand Duke of Luxembourg, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of Belgium, Prime Minister of Luxembourg Xavier Bettel, Prime Minister of Belgium Sophie Wilmes, President of Poland Andrzej Duda, former President of Germany Joachim Gauck, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley and representatives from the Netherlands, France, the United Kingdom, and Canada on December 16 at the Luxembourg American Cemetery in Hamm, where 5,073 U.S. soldiers, including General Patton, are laid to rest, to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge.  In keeping with our Embassy’s theme of “honoring the past while looking to the future,” they took the opportunity to confirm the advances in our defense relationship this year, and to commit to seek additional opportunities to strengthen our defense cooperation.”
