We cannot accept mailed-in passport applications at the U.S. embassy Luxembourg. Every application must be submitted in person after scheduling an appointment using our online agenda.

Payment Methods & Details

The U.S. Embassy in Luxembourg accepts payment by credit card (no V-pay card) and cash (Euros or USD). Important: Checks/money orders cannot be accepted.

We are no longer able to accept any U.S. denomination (USD) bank notes that were printed before 1991.

Credit card payments can only be processed in person, the physical card and card holder must be present – we cannot accept credit card details supplied via mail or by phone.

Mobile phones are not permitted in the Embassy, so we can’t process payments through digital wallets such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, or PayPal.

Ensure you are the named card holder and that your credit card is signed before coming to your appointment.

All credit card transactions are processed in U.S. dollars. The actual amount charged to your credit card will reflect your bank’s exchange rate and, possibly, a transaction fee.

Passport Photos

To avoid processing delays, we recommend you use a professional passport photo service.

Make sure to specify to the photographer that the photo is for a U.S. passport, different from the European standard for passport photographs

The processing of your passport application may be delayed if you do not submit a photo that meets the requirements.

Since we are not able to mail new passports outside of our consular district, people applying for passport renewals who do not have mailing addresses in Luxembourg will be required to collect new passports in person.

Your new passport can be collected at the US Embassy on Tuesday or Thursday 9-11am and 1:30-3pm (no appointment needed). Please bring your current passport if it was not cancelled and the receipt you received at your renewal appointment as proof of payment.

New passports that are not collected within 90 days will, according to regulations, be returned to Washington, DC, and you will have to restart the process, including paying the fee again.

Important Information

What not to bring to your appointment

Visitors are not allowed to bring cell phones, laptops, tablets, and similar electronic devices onto the premises. Visitors carrying unauthorized objects will not be granted entry.
To facilitate and speed up your entry into the compound we recommend you bring no large bags such as suitcases, backpacks, and packages.
Baby food and/or essential medications (in plastic containers only, NO glass) should be brought to the attention of the guards.
Once you enter the screening area, be prepared to remove all metallic items, together with your coat/jacket, belt, handbag/rucksack/briefcase, etc.
