Security Alert: U.S. Embassy Luxembourg, Luxembourg

Event:  Schueberfouer Fair – August 23 to September 11, 2019.

Location:  Glacis parking area, Limpertsberg, Luxembourg.

The U.S. Embassy in Luxembourg wishes to remind U.S. citizens to exercise caution during the fair.  Petty crimes such as pickpocketing and other non-violent crimes of opportunity generally occur in and around the fair grounds.  Alcohol related incidents are also common during the later hours of the festival, both on the fair grounds and in the surrounding neighborhood streets. The Embassy is presently unaware of any specific threat information concerning this event; however, events attracting large crowds have been the target of recent terrorist attacks throughout Western Europe.

Information for registering young children:

  1. Please make any registrations at least (1) working day in advance of attendance.
  2. Visit link and select “Inscription Pour Familles” to fill out form for the Commission Office.
  3. At Schueberfouer, familiescan go to the police station on the site of the fair where they will get a sticker indicating the name of the child, the police station’s telephone number and a code through which the police officers will find the contact information of the child’s caretaker.
  4. Registration is valid for the duration of the fair but must be made in advance.

During Schueberfouer, U.S. citizens should practice the following:

  • Park your vehicle off the street or in a well-lit area
  • Do not leave valuables in plain view inside your vehicle
  • Avoid late night hours near the event
  • Avoid groups of intoxicated revelers
  • Avoid driving near the event if possible, and watch for pedestrians crossing at unexpected locations
  • When walking, be especially careful at crossings, as distracted or intoxicated drivers may not recognize your right-of-way
  • Immediately call local police in the event of an emergency at 113
  • Safeguard your passport and valuables
