Security Alert – Holiday Season 2023
U.S. Embassy Luxembourg, Luxembourg (November 22, 2023)
December 22, 2023

Luxembourg, countrywide.

During the holiday season, it is important to remember that transnational terrorist organizations and individuals inspired by extremist ideology persist throughout Europe on all sides of the political spectrum. Extremists have in the past focused on tourist locations, shopping malls. airports, clubs, restaurants, places of worship, transportation hubs, and other soft targets, including during the holiday season. Exercise additional vigilance at locations with large crowds.

In addition, the U.S. Embassy is aware of a recent increase in thefts targeting properties, storage units, and parked cars. During the holiday season, when homes and vehicles may be more vulnerable due to travel and increased activity, it is crucial to remain vigilant and adopt additional precautions.

Actions to Take:

-Exercise vigilance at holiday festivals and events, place of worship, and locations with large crowds.

-Keep a low profile.

-Be aware of your surroundings.

-Have personal security plans.

-Monitor local media for updates.

-If traveling for an extended period of time, consider registering with the “Going on Holiday” service with the Luxembourg police to add your residence to police safety patrols: https://police.public.lu/en/commissariat-virtuel/depart-vacances.html
