Security Notice 2022-16 Demonstrations to Protest SCOTUS Decision on Roe v. Wade – June 28th & July 1st, 2022
3 MINUTE READ
June 28, 2022

In the wake of the recent Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, the Mission is aware of multiple planned demonstrations at the Embassy compound.  RSO will be monitoring the situation and provide more information as it becomes available.

On Tuesday, June 28, starting at 12h30 to 13h00 a demonstration in front of the Embassy has been organized by Jif Luxembourg. Over 100 people are estimated to participate.

To ensure Mission personnel safety during the demonstration, Mission personnel or visitors will be prohibited to enter or exit the Embassy compound beginning at 12h00. Mission personnel and family members should avoid the area around the Embassy beginning at 12h15 on Tuesday. Entering and exiting the Embassy compound will resume approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the demonstration (tentatively 13h15) once RSO has determined that it is safe to move outside the Embassy, at which point a SAFE message will be issued.  If you are caught outside the Embassy during this time, please go to the Annex.

On Friday, July 1, starting at 17h00 to 20h00 there will a demonstration at the Embassy.  The Independence Day celebration for Mission staff and families will conclude by 16h00.  RSO recommends departing the Embassy by 16h30 and avoiding the area from 16h30 until 20h30.

Local police will be present to monitor the demonstrations. RSO has no information on closure of streets or other temporary parking or movement restrictions that may be put in place.  Mission personnel are also strongly encouraged to park their personal vehicle away from the Embassy neighborhood on both days. RSO will coordinate with GSO on moving USG vehicles.

Historically in Luxembourg, gatherings of this type have been peaceful and orderly, however, mission personnel and their family members are encouraged to exercise caution and avoid the area as demonstrations can quickly become unpredictable.

Please contact the RSO at ext. 2347 if you have any questions about this Security Notice or if you have any security issues or concerns.
