United States Ambassador to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg J. Randolph Evans announced today that the Luxembourg American Cemetery in Hamm is now accessible via a new stop on a public bus line operated by the Luxembourg Public Transport System, that began service today between the Luxexpo in Kirchberg and the American Battle Monuments Commission Luxembourg American Cemetery in Hamm.

“Today, the Luxembourg American Cemetery is more accessible than ever. This new bus service represents another strong measure of commitment by the Luxembourg government to the Luxembourg American Cemetery, making easier than ever for Luxembourgers and visitors to learn about the historic sacrifice paid by U.S. soldiers in defense of Luxembourg’s freedom. More visitors will now be able to honor the great men and one woman who rest here and give them new perspective on the challenges we face today and gratitude for those that paid the ultimate price for our freedom and safety.”
The bus will run every hour starting at 1000 with the last bus departing the Luxexpo at 1600. Return trips will depart from the Cemetery to Luxexpo at 25 minutes past every hour beginning at 10:25am.
The Luxembourg American Cemetery in Hamm welcomed over 100,000 visitors last year, making it one of the top tourist destinations in the country. This new bus service will make the cemetery even more accessible to the Luxembourg public and visiting tourists. The service is free, as is all of Luxembourg’s public transportation system, and is a short ten-minute direct journey from Luxembourg’s main tram line.
This new bus service is the product of cooperation following the signing of the “Joint Statement of Mutual Interest” on December 13, 2019, between the Secretary of the American Battle Monuments Commission William Matz, U.S. Ambassador to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg J. Randolph Evans, and Luxembourg Minister Delegate of Defence Henri Kox. This statement was signed in the week leading up to the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge as an expression of shared interest by both governments to increase and enhance visitors and their experiences at the Luxembourg American Cemetery, a powerful symbol of our bilateral relationship and the historic sacrifice paid by U.S. soldiers in defense of Luxembourg’s freedom.
The Luxembourg American Cemetery reopened to the public last Wednesday 17 June 2020 with new social distancing restrictions.
In order to allow for proper social distancing at the cemetery, visitors must book an appointment to visit Luxembourg American Cemetery through this link https://abmc.as.me/schedule.php. This is a free reservation process that allows for appropriate spacing on-site. Next-of-kin, and family members of the fallen, as well as WWII Veterans, should contact the cemetery ahead of their visit at Luxembourg American Cemetery and all ABMC locations.
According to Trip Advisor, the Luxembourg American Cemetery is one of the top sites to visit in Luxembourg.
